Tokyo Fashion Has Stolen My Heart

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.  There’s something about the Japanese women that causes me to have one giant girl crush on them.  It’s not really one thing in particular, but a hundred different things that come together to create a petite, pastel-colored, fringed with lace and tied in a beautiful bow package of Japanese fashion.  Even the outliers, or what the western world might call the “alternative” or “hipsters” have caught my heart!  Part of me loves the fact that the outliers are so easily accepted within Tokyo, no matter how high their platform shoes, or how many stickers adorn their faces, or even how incredibly odd their clothing selection is in comparison to mainstream fashion.  Everyone has their place in Tokyo, and they’re free to be whoever they’d like.  With that said, my shopping addiction and innate desire to follow the trends (unless of course I can’t afford the trends, which happens more often than not) meant that I badly needed to fit in!

During my last two weeks spent in Tokyo, I dragged my mom (yes, we brought my mom to Japan with us) and Thomas around to find the clothing that would help me fit in!  Finding a few good deals along the way, and stopping for a photo shoot here and there, I felt pretty darn successful in my endeavor.

High point – finding steals of a deal at the Uniqlo cheaper cousin, Gu  – and buying items that I can still wear in the tropics of Singapore!

Low point – purchasing a white bow head band for 100¥.  I’m just not “Japanese cute” enough to pull it off, and now it will forever sit in the back of my closet reminding me of my cute inadequacy.

By no means would I say Japan is a place for cheap clothing shopping, but it’s definitely an experience in itself, and something I could for sure get used to!
