Finally, we made it to Jordan and have been able to start crossing some things off The List that have been on it for a while. Our first stop in the country took us to the Dead Sea – the lowest point on dry land at 401 meters below sea level. At nearly 10 times saltier than ocean water, its natural buoyancy is the main attraction.
To be honest, this was probably one of the easiest items on our list to complete, and can be summed up in 3 easy steps.
- Fly to Amman, Jordan
- Rent a car and drive one hour to the Dead Sea
- Get in the water!
What we didn’t realize ahead of time was that the Dead Sea is about so much more than just a science experiment on buoyancy. The mineral-rich black mud and salts found at the bottom are used in spas around the area, and it wasn’t long before we were lathered in mud and having our skin exfoliated for free on the beach of the Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa.
Now that we’re here, we’re regretting our decision to stay just one night and are trying to figure out if we have enough time for one more mud bath before we check out in the morning. :)
