If running 14 km through the city of Singapore and tackling 9 obstacles along the way makes you tough, then we’re #CertifiedTough! The Men’s Health Urbanthlon is hands down our favorite run in Singapore. It has just the right mix of distance and obstacles, and has yet to fail on showing off new parts of this beautiful city! This year the run took us from the new SportsHub, over to Marina Barrage, through Gardens By The Bay, around Marina Bay, through the Chinese New Year extravaganza, down the F1 pit road, around the Singapore Flyer, and then back down Nicoll Highway towards Kalang Park. It was a stunning early morning run, and another fantastic way to show off the city! This year’s mystery obstacle was an interesting one to say the least. The medics were kept busy wheeling people back to waiting ambulances with a multitude of injuries, from sprained backs to broken ankles, and even some good ‘ol fashion whiplash. Something about jumping off a 3 m platform seemed to cause some problems for people. Crash mat or not, it doesn’t help much when it’s hard as a rock. Good thing Katherine nailed her landing like the Olympian she is, or this post would definitely have a different twist! :) Overall, our times were a disappointment this year. I like to blame the wait time at the obstacles, which added up to nearly 30 minutes. The queues were a welcome rest, but here’s to hoping they get them cleared up for next year so we can blow our times out of the water!
