For years now, we have been dying to experience Japan further than Narita International. Everyone knows that Japan isn’t cheap, holding the top spot of the world’s most expensive city until just recently (Read: Yikes!…We Live In The World’s Most Expensive City!), so for us, exploring the country had to be at the perfect time. Summer is too hot. Winter is too cold. Everything is dying in autumn. Spring is when it had to happen.
Conveniently enough, our school’s spring holiday lined up perfectly with the start of the cherry blossom (sakura) season in Japan this year. Predicting exactly when the cherry blossom flowers will bloom is near impossible, and we ended up arriving a bit early (not that we had any choice in the matter). Our two weeks there saw us leaving when the trees were just reaching full bloom, but c’est la vie! Every moment we spent in Japan was special. Beyond the simple beauty of the sakura, there was an excitement and readiness for Spring that seemed to engulf the Japanese. From sitting under the sakura for lunch time picnics, to taking selfies with a newly bloomed branch, it was obvious that this is a special time of year Japan.
Once we arrived, it was no longer about snapping the perfect photograph to post on this blog. We often found ourselves just people watching, fully immersed in this incredibly short time of year in Japan.
But of course, we did manage to sneak a few photos along the way. How could we not?? #85 of While We’re Alive complete!
