We’ve been told that a visit to Chiang Mai isn’t complete without attending a Thai cooking class. So, on our first trip ever to northern Thailand, we signed up for a day of culinary fusion at the Basil Cookery School. There are so many cooking schools in Chiang Mai, that it was nearly impossible to decide. We ended up at Basil through their countless positive reviews and the fact that they advertise themselves as a “healthy Thai cookery school”. Everyone knows how “healthy” we eat (Read: 5 Reasons Why We LOVE 7-Eleven in Thailand) so we thought, if anything, this would be a step in the right direction.
Well, we couldn’t have picked a better class! Our master chef, Mr. Tom, was knowledgable, supportive, patient, and bursting with the Thai humour that we adore so much. At the end of the class, we came away with an in-depth cookbook and a few skills to attempt to replicate some of the 12 delicious Thai specialities that Tom helped us with. We also learned the secret ingredient of EVERY Thai dish…
What made the class even more special, was getting the chance to share it with a friend from high school! Since moving abroad and having the chance to travel even more, we’ve been so fortunate to meet people from all around the world. One of the best parts about living overseas are the chance and planned encounters with old and new friends. It makes each experience that much “sweeter”! :)
nice :D
