Shwedagon Pagoda…Worth Every US Dollar! ~ Myanmar

Shwedagon Pagoda - Yangon - Myanmar 3

Before arriving in Myanmar, we knew that one of the must see sites was going to be the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon.  We had heard that it was such a special and sacred place for buddhists in Myanmar, to miss it would be an atrocity.

The foreigner tax to get in wasn’t bad at all, so long as you hide your camera equipment to avoid the surcharges.  And, at $5 US per foreigner, we could afford to go twice, it was that good!

It’s incredibly hard to put into words just how beautiful and special the Shwedagon Pagoda really is.  Therefore, we’ll have to resort to letting the photos below do the talking…

Enjoy!

Shwedagon is surely a place to visit! I can notice that it has been renovated and polished a lot since my visit some 25 years ago, see the pics here: http://wp.me/p1jVlh-fY

Those are great pictures Olli! Thank-you so much for sharing. We’re sure Myanmar has changed immensely in the last 25 years, but at the same time, with all the sanctions and everything, we’re sure so much of it has probably remained the same. That was one of the major draws for us, and particularly what we loved so much about the place.
