Since having our GoPro Hero 2 stolen off the side of a train in Sri Lanka (Read: The Tale of the Lost GoPro – Sri Lanka), we were left with a void in our life that’s been itching to head underwater with sharks, jump on a scooter in Vietnam, leap off a cliff in New Zealand, and well….do pretty much anything we wouldn’t normally do without a camera in hand to document it. So, now that we have the equipment, we have no excuses!
At the time, we struggled to find the positives out of the whole theft incident. Unbeknown to us, GoPro had a little secret up their sleeves in the form of a new and improved GoPro!! The Hero 3 Black Edition is fully loaded with 60fps in 1080p resolution, and a stunning 120fps in 720p. What does that all mean?? Super slow-mo in spectacular quality! AWESOME! :) Some other features we’re pretty stoked about are: 12 mp photos, an included Wi-Fi remote, live view capability with the iPhone app, and enhanced low-light video and picture quality. Then there’s the extra little gadgets we picked up:
- The Frame – To mount the GoPro without needing to use the waterproof housing.
- Anti-fog Inserts – We learned this the hard way while surfing in Bali. An absolute must when you go from an air conditioned hotel room, to the sweltering tropical heat outdoors, back into the cold ocean water.
- 64 gb Micro-SD Card – The size of a finger nail…unbelievable!
- Suction Cup – Needed a new one after the Sri Lanka incident.
With our new Hero in hands, we are more than ready to cage dive with sharks in Hawaii this coming January! Stay tuned for some stunning, and possibly electrifying, video! :)

Thomas and Katherine, for the anti-fog inserts, here is a more affordable alternative, exact same material but half the price. Fits the Hero3, just cut them in half.
