Watching the sunset at a beachside café on our last night at Senggigi Beach in Lombok, what appeared to be a supermodel photo shoot had caught the corner of my eye. Throughout my travels in Southeast Asia, one thing I’ve learned is that the most random things can happen at any time, and this was trip was no different. Not wanting to miss out on getting up close and personal with an Indonesian supermodel, I grabbed my camera and headed over.
I had seen this group of people just days prior, doing the same thing at a different location. I figured they were shooting for some sort of advertisement, and decided to keep my distance. This time however, I just couldn’t resist. Sensing an opportunity, I made my way closer, camera in hand, to see what was going on.
Before I knew it, I found myself smack in the middle of a model shoot. Moments after I approached the group, one of the photographers asked if I wanted to “training”, and invited me to shoot with them. How could I say no to an invitation to shoot a REAL model?? And I was super excited to learn a trick or two from some professional photographers. Without hesitation, I got down and dirty, rolling around in the sand, shooting the model as the sun was quickly fading. The model was definitely a professional. She had all the right moves and knew exactly how to show off her best features.
It wasn’t until the sun had set that I had asked what they were shooting for. Apparently, THEY were training!! This shoot wasn’t for an advertisement, magazine, book, portfolio, or even a school project. They were just 3 guys and a “supermodel” learning how to use their new toys. AWESOME!
