A Guide to The World’s Highest Starbucks ~ Taipei 101, Taiwan

We’re not sure if Starbucks has made this official, but rumour has it that their location on the 35th floor of the Taipei 101 building is the world’s highest. Now, with no official designation about this from @Starbucks, that could certainly be up for debate. And, what exactly is being referred to if it’s the “highest”? Are we talking elevation or the number of floors up from ground level? Either way, being able to say that you’ve been to the world’s highest Starbucks sounds pretty cool, doesn’t it? Well, it’s not as easy as simply walking in the front doors, so read on to get the low down on how to get in.

Almost everyone who visits Taipei will make their way to the Taipei 101. That’s the easy part. Take the Xinyi (red) metro line to the Taipei 101 World Trade Centre station (R6) and you’re there. But wait…before you can attempt to get into this Starbucks, you’ll need a reservation!

That’s right, not only is this Starbucks unique in that it’s the highest in the world, but it’s got to be the only one we know of that requires a reservation. Unless of course, you work in the Taipei 101. In that case, lucky you!

Getting a reservation is relatively easy, so long as you have some flexibility in your trip. To do so, you’ll need someone who speaks Mandarin to call for you, at least one day in advance. If you don’t speak the language, a receptionist at your hotel should be able to help you.

Reservation Number: +886 2 8101 0701

Now that you’ve got your reservation, you’ll need to show up at least 5 minutes in advance. Make your way to Door 7 of Taipei 101 located along Section 5, Xin Yi Road. Once inside, make a right towards the information desk, where the staff can direct you where to stand. Wait patiently, and before you know it a trusty barista will appear to confirm your reservation and bring you up to the 35th floor.

Window seats are at a premium here, as most visitors are probably there for the same reason you are…the view! If you’re lucky enough to arrive with some available, make sure you chope (Singlish for “save”) one first before ordering your matcha latte and baguette. Otherwise, be patient but on guard to snag a seat when it frees up. Chances are others will have the same idea as you!

Phew, you made it! Now, sit back and enjoy the company, views, and accomplishment of making it to the world’s highest Starbucks. Whatever that means…

A few important points before you visit:

  • A minimum spend of $200 TWD per person is required.
  • No shorts or slippers (flip-flops) are allowed in the Taipei 101, including Starbucks.
  • Reservations are for 90 minutes.
