5 Reasons Why We LOVE 7-Eleven in Thailand

While in Thailand, 7-Eleven’s are our lifeline.  Something we would not and could not live without!  Read our top 5 reasons of why we love 7-Eleven in Thailand to find out what makes this convenience store so darn convenient.

1. Consistent Pricing and No Haggling – When you’re fresh off the plane the last thing you want to do is be taken for a sucker and pay 5x the normal price for a beverage.  Cue 7-Eleven.  Instead of having to remember what the normal cost of a can of pop or a bottle of water should be, the prices are set right in front of you.  And, instead of haggling back and forth trying to get the better deal, you know that the local standing beside you is paying the exact same amount!  Phew what a relief! **If you really want to get into Asia, try haggling at a 7-Eleven.  Let us know how that works out.

2. Ham and Cheese Croissant – What’s this you may ask?  Doesn’t sound very culturally significant.  It isn’t.  But it is delicious.  Culture can take a rest and you can bite into these mouthwatering sandwiches found at your local 7-Eleven.  Good thing for you they only set you back 30Baht ($1), and since its made fresh in store (ie. taken from a package in the fridge section and gently set into a contraption that looks similar to a George Foreman Grill) you can enjoy these anytime, anywhere.  Trust us, it’s worth it.

3. “Ding-Dong” – If you’ve ever set foot in a 7-Eleven in Thailand you’ve definitely heard the unforgettable notification to staff that you have arrived.  If you happen to miss the sound, you’ll know you found the right place when you’ve been greeted by a ladyboy’s “Sawasdee”.  Like Pavlov’s dog, whenever we hear the familiar “ding-dong” of a Thai 7-Eleven back home in Canada, we’re instantly salivating for a ham and cheese croissant. (See Reason #2)

4. Hydration –  When you’re absolutely dying in the hot mid-afternoon Bangkok sun, 7-Eleven’s often become mirages for unprepared travellers.  Luckily, the mirages generally turn out to be the real thing, as there are more 7-Eleven’s in Bangkok than there are Starbucks in Seattle.  Can’t get much more convenient than that!

5. One Stop Shop – 7-Eleven in Thailand is indeed convenient, selling not only food in drink, but also pink duct tape, deodorant, nylons, lighters, birthday candles, nail clippers, toothpaste, sexy girl magazines, dim sum, umbrellas, and tampons to name a few.  If all you need is a snack, why not step outside the box and try one of the ever changing flavours of Lay’s potato chips.  Seaweed?  Miso Soup?  Spicy Shrimp?

7-Eleven is also great for its airconditioning…and safety from scary fireworks!

Thanks for stopping by and liking my post. Having been to Thailand many times I can relate to loving 7-11! Personally love the pork buns and lived off them when my backpacking funds were low and the cheap bottled water that wont make you ill!

Same deal with McDonalds for coffee. You go to England and they give you a small tea cup of coffee that tastes watered down. Small containers in Panama and Mexico too, but at least the coffee is good (especially Panama).

I like to just hang out inside a 7-11 every so often, as the air conditioning is great! When I was in Chiang Mai recently, I loved getting a big cup of pop from the in-store dispensers. I think it was like 18 baht for a massive cup. Great deal!

    Totally agree!
My partner and I spent a 3-night vacation in Khaosan Thailand (where nobody sleeps and stops partying) and 7-11 is like air you breathe. It is everywhere indeed. We love their sandwiches (reason #2). sooo delicious! We almost ate them everyday plus the Pad Thai on the streets. It’s cheap, clean and tasty. and yes, their bottled water does not make your tummy miserable, something biggie for a traveler. We even bought some and took them in our home country. We miss Thailand so much!
